MälarFasad Awarded Prestigious Landmark Project at Stureplan, Stockholm
One of Stockholm’s most exclusive and historically significant projects has now commenced. The Bångska Palace at Stureplan is to be restored to its original 140-year-old façade, with the project managed by MälarFasad, a subsidiary of Layer Group.

Being entrusted with this contract at one of Sweden’s most iconic addresses is a clear recognition of MälarFasad’s specialist expertise in advanced and historically sensitive building restoration.
– Being selected to work on projects such as the Bångska Palace is a testament to our focus on quality, craftsmanship, and historical understanding. It strengthens us both as a company and as a brand, and represents exactly the type of project we want to be associated with, says Daniel Öberg, CEO of MälarFasad.
The contract includes a comprehensive refurbishment of the building’s exterior envelope, with façade reconstruction forming the core of the assignment. In addition, the project involves window restoration and the manufacturing of new window sections and doors, all adapted to the building’s original architectural expression.
The project also includes advanced stucco work, with the reconstruction of rich decorative details, as well as extensive sheet metal work where traditional methods are combined with modern technology. The aim is to recreate the historical aesthetics while placing strong emphasis on long-term sustainability.
The façade, which has been altered and simplified over the decades, will now regain its original late 19th-century appearance. The work requires precision, deep material knowledge, and craftsmanship at the highest level. Daniel Öberg describes the challenges:
– The main challenges are the timeline, safety, and logistics, while also maintaining great respect for the existing buildings and their history. This requires careful planning, the right expertise, and close collaboration between all parties involved.
To support the project, MälarFasad will engage, among others, Lönnbergs Fönster, a sister company within Layer Group. Their assignment will be to restore and energy-optimize all windows.
– We have extensive experience of projects like this in complex environments and understand the importance of the right partners. Our subcontractors are carefully selected and will all contribute to the restoration of the Bångska Palace, says Daniel Öberg.
The result will be a building that reclaims its natural role in the cityscape and strengthens the identity of Stureplan for years to come. For MälarFasad, this project represents yet another addition to its cultural heritage portfolio, further positioning the company as a leading player in historic preservation.
