Per Rosenqvist New CEO of Wahlqvist Måleri: “I Want to See Others Succeed”
Per Rosenqvist has taken on the role of CEO at Wahlqvist Måleri in Karlskrona – a company with a strong presence in the region and a long-standing history. He succeeds founder Jörgen Wahlqvist, who is handing over a profitable and well-regarded business.
“Jörgen has been incredibly generous with his knowledge and support. It feels reassuring to take the helm of such a well-managed company,” says Per.
Per Rosenqvist is a familiar face in the region, known for his previous roles as Head of Marketing for the Hultsfred Festival and Kalmar FF, and as Club Manager for Karlskrona Hockey.
“My background isn’t rooted in industry-specific interests, but rather in working with strong brands and business development. I'm passionate about building organisations through business sense and relationships. At the same time, I want to coach others to succeed – I’ve been in the spotlight enough in my earlier roles; now I want to lift others,” Per explains.
Entering the painting industry is, according to Per, an exciting opportunity to contribute with experience from other sectors. He describes himself as a "blank slate" when it comes to the craft – but sees that as a strength.
“I fully defer to the expertise – there are already incredibly skilled employees at Wahlqvist Måleri. My role will be to support and coach, to develop the business, and to highlight what we’re truly good at,” he says.
“Per has an impressive background in building strong teams and brands. We’re excited to welcome him to the Layer family and look forward to seeing how his leadership and business drive will contribute to Wahlqvist’s continued development,” says John Strand, CEO and Group President of Layer Group.
A Well-Known and Respected Brand
Wahlqvist Måleri is a well-known brand in Karlskrona with strong customer relationships and solid profitability. Its local roots are clear – both among customers and employees. Becoming part of this is something Per sees as a great privilege.
“It’s a company with a strong reputation and a close-knit, family-oriented culture. I want to continue building on that feeling, get to know every employee, and help ensure the company remains an attractive employer,” he says.
Wahlqvist Måleri has been successful for many years, but the timing of Per’s arrival has not been without challenges. The entire industry has faced difficulties, but the peak season for painting companies is now approaching, and the outlook is positive.
“We’re fully booked for the season and see a strong order intake. Now it's all about making the most of the momentum,” says Per.
Collaboration and Visibility Going Forward
As part of Layer Group, Per looks forward to leveraging the support of the larger organisation – especially in terms of collaboration and shared administrative solutions.
“It’s reassuring to have a network of experienced colleagues to lean on, especially when you’re new to an industry,” he says.
And indeed, Per’s marketing experience will also play a significant role in his new position.
“We need to get better at building visibility and showcasing our projects through various channels. It’s not only important from a marketing perspective but also in attracting new talent. We have so many skilled employees and great projects – we should be showing them off,” Per concludes.
