Mälarfasad’s 27th Church Project: A Comprehensive Renovation of Råby-Rekarne Church
Layer Group’s subsidiary, Mälarfasad, has been entrusted with carrying out an extensive interior renovation of Råby-Rekarne Church – a culturally and historically significant landmark dating back to the 12th century.

“We have renovated quite a few churches, but it’s always exciting, and no church project is ever the same. Being entrusted once again with a culturally and historically significant building speaks volumes about our expertise and our previous work,” says Daniel Öberg, CEO of Mälarfasad in Eskilstuna.
Over the centuries, the church has been rebuilt and adapted, but over time it gradually developed various issues that eventually led to its closure for operational and safety reasons.
“It’s unfortunate when places like this are closed off, and we are proud to be able to help preserve buildings from our cultural heritage and give them a new lease on life,” says Daniel.
Mälarfasad will carry out a full interior renovation, including plastering all walls, restoring windows and woodwork, removing and painting pews, and replacing the flooring. In addition, radon mitigation and crawl space remediation will be required. The work is carried out with respect for the building’s history, using traditional methods and materials to ensure the long-term preservation of the church.
Daniel explains:
“Because this is a culturally and historically valuable building, the work is conducted under the supervision of heritage experts to ensure that the building’s values are preserved. The requirements are high, but by combining traditional craftsmanship with modern construction expertise, we have successfully renovated and preserved 26 churches so far. We look forward to starting number 27!”
